Product description
Dancing Skeleton T-shirt with manners: on the front a skeleton leaps toward you, grins with his whole skull and tips his top hat in greeting. The bony hand holds the hat by the brim high above his head, and the hatband gleams copper red. One knee is pulled up, and the sole of his shoe looms so large in the foreground that he seems about to step right out of the picture onto the dance floor. This is how someone says hello after not missing a party for a few centuries, with no plans to leave early tonight either.
Everything is drawn in the style of old copperplate engravings. Dense, fine lines build up ribs, jaw and every finger joint, strong outlines hold the figure together, and the hatching gives the leap its depth. Around his neck the dancer wears a red, knotted scarf. His tailcoat is frayed at the edges and the tails fly out behind him, as if the jump had only just begun. His other hand reaches far to the right, fingers spread, revealing where he is heading: to his partner. The colors stay sparse: black for hat, tailcoat and sole, a pale bone cream for the figures, strong red for scarves, roses and lanterns, plus a little copper and orange. There is no lettering; the picture tells the whole story by itself.
In the lower right she dances, drawn smaller and at least as cheerful. Red roses sit in her curly hair, a red sash wraps her waist, and with one hand she gathers her skirt of black and cream, its ruffles glowing orange red. Above them a string of five red paper lanterns runs across the picture, two of them half hidden behind hat and skull. You can almost hear the music and the click of heels, and suddenly a scene full of bones feels surprisingly sociable.
On the back the evening goes on. There the couple dances back to back under four lanterns. He is on the left, with top hat, red neckerchief and tailcoat, one knee thrown up, one hand stretched far out. She is on the right, one arm high in the air, looking up with a laugh, the skirt with the red hem in full swing. Whoever waits behind you at the bar gets to see the second act. On both sleeves two bony hands each hold an oval, ribbed lantern, as if they had to save it from the next dance step.
This shirt is made for people who would rather celebrate Halloween than be scared by it. For the friend who is always first on the dance floor. For the colleague with the driest dark humor in the office. For everyone who spends autumn with lanterns, music and a wink. And because carnival season kicks off on 11 November, the gentleman with the top hat fits carnival too. As a gift for a theme party or an October birthday it works just as well, because a laughing skeleton never holds a grudge.
Pair it with dark jeans, a leather jacket or an open cardigan that leaves the lanterns in view. If you come in costume, add your own top hat and a red scarf and you will stand next to your print like a twin. Your Dancing Skeleton T-shirt says hello before the fun starts: the gentleman on your chest has already raised his hat, all you have to do is greet him back.
