Front: a steaming mulled wine mug with two cinnamon sticks under a pointed arch, above a ribbon reading Nur wegen dem Glühwein hier and a star anise. Optional: two mugs clinking by market stalls on the back, star anise and cinnamon on the sleeves.
Product description
This Glühwein T-shirt says out loud why most people really go to a German Christmas market: Nur wegen dem Glühwein hier, which roughly means just here for the Glühwein. Not for the fairy lights, not for the nativity scene and not for the stalls selling felt slippers, but for the hot mug that warms your fingers. A grammar stickler would say wegen des Glühweins, yet nobody talks like that at the stand, and that is exactly why the line sounds so familiar to German ears. The design looks like an old poster that might once have hung on a market stall, with fine lines, dense cross-hatching and shading reminiscent of a copperplate engraving or an etching.
The front centres on a single large mug. It is made of reddish-brown stoneware and shown in three-quarter view. Its handle sits on the right and reaches all the way down to the ribbon banner. Cream folk-art decoration with green leaves runs across the mug in the style of old country pottery: a large flower on the left, a slender tendril in the middle and a small sprig of leaves on the right. Inside, dark red Glühwein glistens. Two cinnamon sticks stand at an angle in the mug, pointing up to the right and reaching beyond the edge of the frame. On the left, a cream-white plume of steam rises in an S-curve, with a second, fainter one behind it on the right.
The frame is a pointed cartouche that tapers at the top like the cap of an onion dome. Its background is dark green and finely speckled, edged with a cream line. Fir branches peek out on the left and right, with small reddish-brown berries on the left side. At the bottom, a parchment ribbon with rolled ends stretches across the picture. It carries the slogan on two lines in a classic serif typeface, Nur wegen dem in dark brown on top and Glühwein hier in red below. A large star anise lies at the bottom left and overlaps the edge of the ribbon. The palette stays warm and muted: reddish brown, dark green, cream to parchment, cinnamon brown and a deep brown for the outlines. There are no people, animals or logos; the whole effect comes from the mug, the spices and the lettering.
If you like, a second picture can go on the back, this time without any text. Its top edge has a cloud-like, wavy outline with a cream border around a dark green night sky full of falling snowflakes. Below it stand snow-covered wooden market stalls with fir garlands, red baubles and warmly glowing lamps, one on the left and one on the right, with a pointed church spire and snowy gabled houses in between. Right at the front, two mugs clink together. The bigger one on the left is cobalt blue with a cream leaf and flower pattern, a little heap of snow on its handle and beige steam rising from it. The smaller one on the right is ochre, decorated with a green fir tree and holding a cinnamon stick. Bright rays between the two rims show the moment of the toast. Fir branches line the bottom, with four red berries tucked in on the left and small piles of snow in between. The sleeves can carry a matching design too: a large star anise in the middle, two cinnamon sticks on one side and four red berries on the other, surrounded by fir branches. The second sleeve shows the same arrangement mirrored.
This Glühwein T-shirt is meant for the first stroll around the market in Advent, a mulled wine evening with friends on the balcony or the office Christmas party where half the team ends up at the stand anyway. As a Secret Santa gift it gets an instant laugh, because almost anyone who has ever stood shivering in front of a stall, waiting for the next mug, will recognise themselves in it. The design comes on the Classic tee, which has a clean, structured shape. AI turned a single sentence into the image, which is printed digitally as soon as an order comes in. If you would rather have your own slogan for the market crowd, you can simply design it yourself at Isakum.
