The Abstract Sunflower T-shirt captures a moment in which color and form quietly find their way to each other. Several large blooms spread across deep blue, their crowns made of angular, tapering points. They look as if they had been torn from sheets of colored paper and carefully laid on top of one another, so that bright, frayed lines remain between the areas. These tear lines lead the eye across the chest, veer off, meet jagged leaf shapes and lose themselves again in the dark ground.
At the center sits a strong bloom with rust orange and warmly toned petals surrounding a dark, grainy core. A little higher, toward the shoulder, a second bloom opens, while at the edges further blooms appear only as cropped fragments, some of them in cool light blue. Between them lie angular blue bands like cleanly separated strips, sometimes navy, sometimes cobalt, sometimes almost luminous. The alternation of warm orange tones and the many shades of blue keeps the whole image in motion without letting it become restless.
It is appealing how differently the edges turn out. Some petals end in razor sharp points, on others a bright line frays as if the paper had been torn by hand instead of cut smoothly. This gives the surface a quiet depth, because the eye constantly jumps back and forth between smooth and rough edges. Small white accents sit as if by chance between the shapes and keep loosening up the dense blue.
In the upper left, a round, faintly stamped circle catches the eye and recalls an old marking. Its characters stay illegible and are pure decoration, a small resting point among the many edges. On the back, the same visual language continues. A large bloom takes the center, flanked by another one at the upper right and one at the lower left, plus light blue bloom fragments and jagged leaves that push in between the torn blue bands. The deep blue as base tone makes the piece pleasantly suited to everyday wear. It goes with light jeans just as well as with plain pants in sand or gray, and the orange accents give every look a warm point.
